What's Been Going On At Camp Daniel??

It's a busy time a year for all of us at Camp Daniel! Since the changing of the seasons, there is much more to do outside- construction and taking care of the grounds. Yet at the same time, we are busily focused on preparing for the summer camp season!

Tony has been spending countless hours on the bulldozer landscaping and creating a road leading to the back of the new garage (the lower, backside of the Barn). This needs to be done by the end of the month in order for the cement trucks that are coming to pour the concrete basement floor.

Loads of gravel was brought in for the new road and to keep the cement trucks from getting stuck in the dirt.

Once the basement floor is poured, we can move all the items from the old garage to the new one, which will allow us to continue the remodel process of the old garage into the Dinning Hall - the last item needed to finally have camp here in on our grounds!

The guys have been spending many hours plastering the foyer, bathrooms, closets and the Fitness Room in the upper level of the Barn.

This is the Fitness Room. When it is finished, we will be able to put all the exercise equipment that was donated to camp in here. Currently, it is filling one of the rooms in the lodge. So, once we move the equipment, we can finish putting in bunks and the finishing touches to the lodge!

At the beginning of this month, the guys put the docks in! It's a lot of work to move the docks in the water and set them up, not to mention the water is still quite cold.

Spring Work Day!

This past weekend, Camp Daniel had a work day with over 50 people helping! We had several different groups that came to serve including The Able Church, New Life Church, Celebrate Recovery, Meadows Christian Fellowship and a handful of individuals.

Jobs included staining the ramp and deck at the Brunot House,

 Raking leaves,
A very old pop-up camper was striped down to its frame. We will be making a Carnival trailer for Carnival Day to store the carnival games and utilize during the carnival.

Trenches were dug for conduit for wiring.

Landscaping jobs included pushing and raking gravel and dirt. Fencing was also installed.

Maintenance and rebuilding of gulf carts.
With over 50 people, we served lunch in two shifts!

Thank you to all who came out to serve! We currently do not have anymore scheduled workdays before our summer camp season. However, if you or your group would like to come serve, please contact us and we can arrange a day or several days for you. info@campdaniel.org

Able Trek Tours

Last week, Karol & Trish returned from a 7 day Able Trek Tour to Graceland and Branson. Able Trek Tours is a company that sets up vacations for people with disabilities and provides volunteers to help them on their trip.

Their first stop was Branson, MO. There they went to four shows including Legends in Concert, which included impersonators of The Blues Brothers, Kenny Chesney, & Elvis, to name a few.

Then it was off to Memphis with a tour Sun Studio (the birthplace of Rock N' Roll)

and a tour through Graceland to see Elvis! Karol & Trish both were matched up with two travelers. They all enjoyed the trip and the relationships they made.

The majority of the Camp Daniel staff go on Able Trek Tours regularly. During our summer camps, as staff, we miss the opportunity to be matched with a camper and really build a relationship. Able Trek gives us that opportunity, helping us personally connect to the lives of people with disabilities. We encourage you to take a trip! abletrektours.com
