Workday!

We had a work day on Saturday! We had a lot of projects for them to do and got them working right when they got here! On Friday night, Jen brought Amanda Schuessler, Sarah Braun, Amy Biese, and Crystal Johnson back home with her. On Saturday morning they came to camp. Amy Biese watched MJ all day so Jen and Marceaux could go work with everybody else. She had a lot of fun, and so did MJ!

The first thing that Amanda, Sarah, and Crystal did was team up with Jen and Molly and removed all of the plastic covering the walls in the Trapline Lodge. That plastic was there because Karol stained the floors in the now "Bobcat Room".

 Looks Great!!

Fran Schmitz also came up for the workday! He worked with Brian in the Trapline lodge in the workout room and put up trim along the walls and around the doors and windows. After that, he installed some curtain rods and shelves.

Everybody was here all day, which means that somebody had to make lunch. Well, Karol, Jen, and Molly helped out with that! They made brats, sautéed mushrooms and onions, there was potato salad, grapes, green beans, chips, and ice cream for dessert. It was delicious!

After lunch, the girls teamed up with Don Richmond and Rudie Koch with sanding the nurses trailer so it can get painted. They were at this for a long time. By the time they were done, the had paint flecks all over them!

Tony, Steve, Nick Sterry, Richard, and Nick were in the add-on of the garage putting up insulation and drywall.

Now who took all of these pictures? Justin. He went around all day taking pictures of everything that was going on so tha they could go in the blog and on Facebook.

The First Day of Fall

Autumn is here! So is the start of the Special Olympics volleyball and bowling season! The Able Attack team started their practice on the tenth. The bowlers go to The Gutter on Lineville Road and the volleyball players practice at the Able Church. However, on the tenth, everybody met at a park after practice and had their annual picnic!

Speaking of picnics, we had our annual counselor appreciation picnic here at Camp Daniel on the fourteenth! It was great! A lot of people showed up and had a lot of fun. There was chili, corn on the cob, cake, raffles, and tours! After the picnic was done, some people stuck around for our first monthly counselor meeting. We will be having these meetings on the second Saturday of every month.

Now that Steve and Nick are moved in, we have been keeping them busy! One of the projects they have been working on is painting the Shopko semi-trailer green with Marceaux. It's looking really good!

Tony and Karol have been working on the craft cabin and decorating the inside of it.

The First Workday Since Camp

We had our first workday since camp has ended on Saturday! And let me tell you, a LOT of work was done. One job that we did started way back on the Friday of labor day weekend. On that day, a major electrical problem started. We lost all power to the craft cabin and the snack stand. That means the refrigerators and freezers in the snack stand were not working! Grandma Jo, Papa Tony, the guys, Trish, Molly, and Justin were moving quickly trying to move all of the food into other refrigerators and freezers around camp before it all went bad! So, this past Friday, an electrician came up and decided that we needed to dig a three feet deep by 120 feet long trench between Molly/Trish's house and the craft cabin.
The next day, the electrician came back to lay down the pipe and wires. They finished around 6pm.

Fran Schmitz, from Three Lakes, came and worked with Ron Lange and Richard. They built a wall in the garage that will be a part of the stage area when the garage is converted into a dining hall.
When they were done with that, Fran fixed Tony and Karol's garage door, a light in the office and built a shelf in Papa Tony's office.

Tim Mandich came up and brought Amy Biese with him. Amy watched MJ so Jen could work with Tim and Colon. They laid two pallets of sod up by the dorm.

After that was done, Tim helped Karol in the nature center. They cleaned out a lot of stuff and building supplies. Then they swept, vacuumed, and mopped the floors in preparation for dying the concrete.
Karol also worked on email issues with Tim Bazett-Jones for three hours. She worked on the newsletter and decorations in the craft cabin.

After lunch, Colon worked with the guys down by the lakefront. They weeded and raked out the sand. The also cleaned up the water.

Johanna also came up and worked in her garden. Trish also worked with her.

Trish worked hard in the kitchen preparing lunch and dinner for everybody and keeping everyone well hydrated. Before the workday, Trish went along the retaining wall by Papa Tony's house and sprayed a lot of wasps. A lot of them are dead now, but there are still a lot more! They seem to be endless!

Camp Daniel Update

The Camp Daniel Appreciation picnic is just around the corner! Trish has been very busy making sure everything on the grounds is ready to go. One of the things she has been doing is working on the flower beds around camp. She has been pulling up weeds and trimming flowers and bushes. Over by Papa Tony and Grandma Jo's house there is a small spot in the retaining wall that has ground in it. There are a lot of weeds in that! She pulled all of them up, left the three small bushes there, and put down a weed barrier and covered it with mulch.

Trish also worked with Jen to finish staining the fence surrounding the new recycling area.

Tony and the guys have been working on the area around the new fence. The poured more concrete, laid some cap stones, and did some landscaping next to the fence.

(Above) Grass was planted everywhere in this spot. Hopefully more will grow!

The other week, Jen got an email from somebody in Special Olympics asking if the Able Attack Special Olympics team wanted to go to a Brewer game! So Jen got some free tickets! Jen, Marceaux, Justin, Trish, and some athletes from our team got on a coach bus down to Milwaukee to go to the game! Everybody had a great time even though the Brewers lost against the Pittsburgh Pirates. We had great seats too!

Karol has been busy too. The Crivitz centennial is this weekend and they are going to be using some of our carnival games. Karol went over to the storage unit to unpack those games and get them ready to use on Friday. Summer is almost over and since our part of the lake here is overgrown with weeds, Karol took out the swimming raft. Before you know it, the ground will be covered with snow!

The weeks of summer camp have been done for almost a month now! Guess what? Molly put the pictures online for weeks one and two! She is currently going through weeks three and four, and will be online soon! If you want to check them out, they are on her Facebook profile or go to: http://www.flickr.com/photos/revolutionarylove1/sets/

It rained up here a couple of days ago and washed out some of the areas that have sand. One of those areas is the driveway. The Mighty Men of Camp Daniel went around and filled everything back in.

Justin has been working with Tim Bazett-Jones on getting the new Camp Daniel website up and running. It is a big and long project but he is starting to get the hang of it. He will be meeting with Tim soon to get a good grip on things. Tim Mandich is going to gone this Friday, so he left Justin and Molly in charge of Able Church. Molly is going to be leading worship and Justin is going to be speaking. Justin has been preparing his message and getting it ready to go.

Tim Mandich has been getting ready for the men's Bible study on Tuesday nights after Special Olympics. He has found a book to go through. It will be a book written by Randy Alcorn about purity. Don't forget that Special Olympics starts on Tuesday September 10th!
